Voyager Platform Features: Workflow Modeler

If we were to dissect the Voyager platform and look at the engine of the system, we would see the workflow modeler. Whether users need to collaborate with internal or external stakeholders, automate processes, collect and analyze data, or project manage voyages, it all starts with the workflow modeler.

What is the modeler?

The workflow modeler is a low-code application our development team has created that allows Voyager to quickly build, launch, and iterate maritime workflows. When we say low-code, we don’t mean low-tech. The modeler is a highly sophisticated, cutting edge, fast to deploy, and user-friendly tool. This allows us to be nimble and flexible in our capabilities for customization.

How does it work?

Our team will take a company’s pre-existing processes and build them into a simple workflow. Often times these workflows will be very linear and go from one task to the next in a specific order. In other instances, there are more complex workflows that include recurring tasks or multiple tasks occurring simultaneously. This is an example of a simple linear demurrage workflow skeleton:

Once the modeler has laid out the framework of the workflow, the mapping begins behind the scenes. This is where we take all the finer details of the workflow and put them into place. This could be collecting information surrounding ports, costs, vessels, documents, or any magnitude of the required information. At this moment, the permissions are set for the responsible party including, when the task is due, and customized alerts and notifications.

What kind of workflows can it create?

There is an unlimited amount of maritime workflows the system is capable of producing. Common examples of workflows are demurrage, vetting, RFQs, stowage plans, cost tracking, BL document capture, custody transfer.

Why is this important?

Typical marine supply chain processes can require repetitive tasks, manual entries, emails back and forth with internal or external stakeholders, all of which take significant time out of an employees’ day. Also, 95% of this information is likely not captured in existing systems or becomes siloed within departments.

Being able to create flexible workflows surrounding current maritime processes, Voyager is able to automate many of the manual or repetitive tasks, allow multi-party collaboration, collect 100% of data, reduce errors, and allow proactive decision making vs reactive.

In addition, marine supply chain companies wait several months while implementing new software or even receiving a customized change to existing software. Thanks to our modeler, Voyager can deploy a full system 4x faster than leading marine ERPs, and have new workflows up in running in days.
